fastrack2renewal™ tour shares many of the best practices being applied by utilities today and encourages discussion about new approaches and future technology needs.
Wachs Water Services has kicked off a nationwide fastrack2renewal™ tour, a series of workshops and technology demonstrations, which bring together water industry experts, municipalities, utilities, and pipeline operators to learn about solutions and best practices for managing aging water infrastructure. The tour will focus on holistic solutions to improve the operation and maintenance of water distribution networks.

The majority of underground water infrastructure in major urban areas of the United States, such as pipelines and valves, were installed 50 to 100 years ago. Managing and funding the renewal of these aging water assets is becoming a greater challenge with each passing year despite the proactive efforts of many utilities and pipeline operators. Water main breaks, water loss, unbilled water and increased treatment regulations are all impacting the quality and quantity of water received by consumers.
The fastrack2renewal™ tour focuses on a holistic approach to managing aging water distribution systems which involves addressing both physical assets and the information associated with these assets, such as the location, condition and operability. The renewal of information based on actual asset condition is critical to achieve sustainable water distribution systems. Accurate information enables utilities and pipeline operators to prioritize system maintenance and rehabilitation investments where the biggest leverage on the investment can be achieved. New technologies, materials and application methods have increased the cost-effectiveness and accuracy of water asset inspection and renewal, allowing users to address greater portions of their networks per project phase.
"Wachs Water Services has supported hundreds of municipalities, large and small, to regain operability and control of their water distribution systems," said Cliff Jones, Vice President of Business Development for Wachs Water Services. "The fastrack2renewal™ tour shares many of the best practices already applied by Wachs Water Services and its' partners, while encouraging discussion about new approaches and future technology needs."
The water infrastructure renewal tour brings together leading experts from engineering firms, valve assessment and rehabilitation, hydrant maintenance, metering, pipeline condition assessment, pipe manufacturing, pipeline lining/structural reinforcement and leading GIS software vendors.
fastrack2renewal™ tour stops will be made in California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
