Q: How does leak detection lead to a reduction in real water loss?
Leak detection is all about identifying opportunities to reduce real water loss.
There are different approaches; leak surveys (where an area is surveyed for indications of leakage), leak correlations (where leak indications are proven out as leaks and marked, or, where indications are proven out not to be leaks).
In any case, we don’t reduce real water loss through leak detection alone.
“Fixing leaks” is what reduces real water loss… Fixing leaks by snugging up leaking valve packing, flushing and fully closing a leaking fire hydrant, clamping a leaking pipe, tightening up a leaking service.
Leak detection identifies real water loss. Fixing leaks reduces real water loss.
