McCormick Place, Chicago, IL…On Monday, June 20 at the Opening General Session of ACE16 Katie McCain was formally awarded the AWWA’s Outstanding Service Award. This award was established in 1925 in memory of John M. Diven to recognize and honor a member of the American Water Works Association who has rendered outstanding service to the Association. In addition to this prestigious award, Katie received the George Warren Fuller Award from the AWWA Texas Section in 1995, became an AWWA Honorary Member in 2009, and received the AWWA’s Management and Leadership Division’s Exceptional Service Award in 2013.
Katie McCain’s professionalism and dedication to the water industry have distinguished her as a passionate leader. In January, 2003, she was elected as AWWA President-Elect. She then began her service as an AWWA presidential officer, serving as president in 2004-2005, the first woman to serve in that capacity. She is most proud of her presidential initiative to promote The Value of Water, an initiative that continues today and is increasingly more important as the public deals with the Flint, Michigan situation.
Katie joined Wachs Water Services’ Business Development team in May of 2009. Katie promotes diversity and has been a role model for many. She continues to use her expertise and unique perspective of Utility and Service Provider background to promote operator activities, expand workforce opportunities for veterans, enhance AWWA’s membership and promote public education.
